Meet Neopalpa donaldtrumpi: The miniature moth with golden hair and a tiny penis
January 18, 2017
Vazrick Nazari, an evolutionary biologist, has discovered a new species of moth with golden hair and a tiny penis and, naturally, named it after the incoming US President. Oh, and the species is also found in Mexico.
Nazari made the discovery somewhat by accident when he was rifling through specimens at the Bohart Musuem of Entomology at the University of California, Davis. After analysing the samples he confirmed that he’d found a new species.

What with its distinctive yellowy-white scales, marking it out from its closest relatives, the moth’s likeness to Trump was too much to resist for Nazari.
Also N.donaldtrumpi’s genitalia is said to be “comparatively smaller” than its closest relatives, although whether or not this is also in reference to Trump cannot be verified.
Donaldtrumpi’s habitat is also tragically under threat as it lives in highly urbanised areas across Mexico and California.
Nazari explained that the fact that undescribed and threatened species are being found in these areas underscores their conservation importance. For all we know there could be more Trump’s out there, or maybe even a critter that looks like Clinton.
“By naming this species after the 45th President of the United States, I hope to bring some public attention to, and interest in, the importance of alpha-taxonomy in better understanding the neglected micro-fauna component of the North American biodiversity,” Nazari said.
